USA’s men’s soccer team might not be the highest ranked worldwide, but the level of their college teams is unparalleled, and is often the entryway for many players going on to play in the MLS. The USA’s women’s team has dominated the world stage for many years, and many national team players played in college. During the 2019 women’s World Cup, 11 players from different nationalities were still in college in the US! The top college team’s infrastructures often resemble those of the best pro teams in Europe. With more than 1700 college soccer teams across the US, whatever your level is, there is a school for you!

When to start?

Coaches are starting to recruit people long in advance, so we recommend you start a year before high school or university graduation.

What type of scholarship?

Depending on your level, scholarships range from 0 to 100% of all costs covered (tuition, food, housing, insurance, books).

Training and college life

Naturally, the training schedule is specific to each university and each coach. In general, there are 5 to 10 training sessions a week for 2 or 3 hours a day. Trainings are not only on the soccer field, but also in the gym with weight lifting and strategy training with video analysis. The training is of very good quality and you will get to a level never reached before throughout your university course.

Generally, training begins with your academic year in August (Fall). The final rounds of the NCAA (I, II or III) and NAIA championships are held late November. Then spring training starts (no competitions but training until the next season).

Americans are big on team bonding, and soccer is truly a team effort. You will train and compete alongside a big group of teammates, and truly feel a part of a big family. The life of a student-athlete is not only training and studying, you will be part of a team and you will participate in many activities with them, creating bonds which will last forever.
